Selecting an RTOS for Robotics
The MIPI Alliance has launched the MIPI A-PHY Compliance Program, the industry’s first formal compliance framework for an automotive serializer/deserializer (SerDes) standard. The initiative provides automotive OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, and semiconductor vendors with a standardized method for validating conformance to the MIPI A-PHY specification, promoting interoperability across a multi-vendor ecosystem. MIPI A-PHY is a long-reach automotive SerDes technology supporting high-speed data transmission over distances of up to 15 meters. It was developed to address connectivity requirements for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), automated driving systems (ADS), and software-defined vehicle (SDV) architectures, enabling reliable communication between image sensors, displays, and centralized computing platforms. The technology also serves as the foundation of the MIPI Automotive SerDes Solutions (MASS) framework, incorporating functional safety and security capabilities. Developed by the MIPI A-PHY Working Group and refined through a dedicated Compliance Advisory Group, the program initially focuses on physical-layer compliance using an established reference test suite. Future phases will expand coverage to the link layer and protocol adaptation layers, validating higher-level protocols operating over A-PHY connections. Key objectives include ensuring products from different suppliers integrate into the same automotive platform while meeting requirements for functional safety, electromagnetic interference (EMI) robustness, and long-term reliability. Upon successful testing, compliant products may be listed in a public MIPI registry. MIPI appointed BitifEye Digital Test Solutions as the program’s authorized test laboratory. The company played a central role in organizing global A-PHY test events and will continue coordinating compliance and validation activities. The ecosystem’s maturity was demonstrated at AutoSens USA 2026 through the automotive industry’s first four-company interoperability demonstration of a high-speed SerDes system. The demo brought together solutions from Sony Semiconductor Solutions, Southchip Semiconductor Technology, Valens Semiconductor, and Velinktech, showcasing successful interoperability between components from multiple vendors based on the A-PHY standard. This event highlighted the practical value of compliance validation in enabling scalable, multi-supplier automotive architectures and accelerating deployment of next-generation vehicle connectivity platforms.
