At HPE Discover 2026, Intel unveiled its new E835 network interface card (NIC) lineup, targeting 200GbE connectivity with a focus on lower power consumption. The cards are designed for basic connectivity in servers connecting to older networking infrastructure, rather than the high-end 400GbE-to-1.6TbE links used in AI clusters. Intel positions the E835 against the popular NVIDIA ConnectX-6 Dx (launched in 2019), claiming roughly half the power draw by leveraging newer technology. The lineup includes several models: the E835-CQDA2 dual-port 100GbE/200GbE NIC (using QSFP28 ports, not QSFP56-DD), the E835-XXVDA2 dual-port 25GbE adapter, the E835-XXVDA4 quad-port 25GbE low-profile card (with a special bracket to fit four SFP cages), a full-height version (E835-XXVDA4F), and an OCP NIC 3.0 form factor (E835-XXVDA4 OCP 3.0). All support common features like RoCEv2, iWARP, and DCB. Recommended prices range from sub-$600 for 200GbE models, $216 or less for the dual 25GbE, to mid-$500 for quad 25GbE cards. The cards are well-suited for management interfaces in AI data centers (often 25GbE) and for power-constrained edge computing, where saving ~10W per NIC can be significant. Intel showcased the E835 at HPE Discover 2026, having missed earlier opportunities at Computex and Dell Tech World. The company hopes to provide a lower-cost, lower-power alternative to high-end NICs, particularly for existing 100GbE and 25GbE networks.
