AMD AAI 2026: AMD and OpenAI: Collaborating Across Every Layer of the Stack
AMD and Anthropic have announced a strategic partnership to deploy up to 2 gigawatts of AMD Instinct MI450 Series GPUs in AMD Helios rackscale solutions, with the first gigawatt deployment beginning in the first half of 2027, marking a major expansion of AMD’s role in global AI infrastructure. The collaboration addresses surging demand for training and inference capacity driven by rapid AI adoption. Anthropic will deploy AMD Helios rackscale solutions featuring AMD Instinct MI455X GPUs (part of the MI450 Series), AMD EPYC “Venice” CPUs, AMD Pensando networking, and AMD ROCm software—purpose-built for next-generation AI workloads. This builds on Anthropic’s existing use of AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs. Additionally, AMD and Anthropic are launching a multiyear engineering collaboration to use Claude to optimize workloads for AMD Instinct GPUs and accelerate ROCm software development. AMD will broadly adopt Claude across its engineering and product development teams. AMD has also committed to a strategic equity investment of up to $5 billion in Anthropic. “We are thrilled to deepen our partnership with Anthropic and deploy AMD Helios at gigawatt scale,” said Dr. Lisa Su, chair and CEO of AMD, emphasizing the combined leadership in frontier AI and high-performance computing. Tom Brown, co-founder and chief compute officer at Anthropic, noted that access to compute is central to keeping Claude at the frontier and meeting customer demand, and that running across diversified hardware allows mapping the right workloads to the right hardware. This announcement represents a major milestone, combining gigawatt-scale deployment with deep engineering collaboration to build a long-term foundation for next-generation AI infrastructure.
