onsemi Launches GaNEXUS GaN Power Portfolio
At PCIM 2026 in Nuremberg, Germany, Texas Instruments introduced the BQ79826Z-Q1 battery monitor, combining high-channel-count monitoring with integrated electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems (ESSs). The device provides real-time battery diagnostics, enhanced safety, and improved accuracy for next-generation battery management systems (BMSs). Its integrated EIS engine continuously evaluates battery condition at the cell level, identifying degradation mechanisms and fault conditions before critical failures, such as thermal runaway, enabling earlier hazard warnings. For ESS, it offers detailed visibility into state of charge and state of health, crucial for large-scale deployments supporting grid infrastructure and AI data centers. The BQ79826Z-Q1 monitors up to 26 cells per integrated circuit—the highest channel count in its class—reducing the number of monitoring ICs needed, lowering bill-of-materials costs, simplifying system architecture, and saving PCB space. Combined with TI’s BQ79881-Q1 pack monitor and optional communications bridge, it forms a scalable BMS platform adaptable to various chemistries, module configurations, and designs, enabling design reuse and faster product development. The device delivers voltage measurement accuracy below 2 mV across -40°C to +125°C, with higher-resolution data conversion, low-noise operation, and faster EIS for precise state-of-charge estimation, improved battery utilization, and longer operational life. It supports Automotive Safety Integrity Level D (ASIL D) and ISO 26262 functional safety requirements. Preproduction devices are available now, with volume production expected by end of 2026.
