Zuckerberg says Meta’s enterprise AI opportunity extends beyond agents
Meta expands enterprise AI ambitions beyond advertising, targeting new revenue streams through APIs, business agents, and compute sales, CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed on the company’s Q2 earnings call. After launching an enterprise AI agent for customer service in June, Meta now sees a larger opportunity to sell to businesses—including offering AI agents that work across messaging apps, internal productivity tools, and even direct compute capacity. Zuckerberg emphasized that, like its ad system, Meta will get paid when AI agents deliver results for advertisers, extending existing partnerships with millions of small businesses. The company also plans to serve larger enterprise customers by externalizing tools originally built for internal use, such as coding and productivity software. While admitting that enterprise sales require a “different muscle,” Zuckerberg noted Meta can sell compute at “a significant premium” but cautioned against selling all capacity for short-term profit, describing a portfolio approach balancing long-term AI infrastructure needs. Beyond business, Meta’s agentic AI push includes consumer “personal AI agents” and AI smart glasses, while large language models accelerate social app development—recently launching apps for Marketplace sellers, Facebook Groups, and vibe-coded games. Zuckerberg expects easier app shipping and plans to scale new ideas via recommendation systems. The strategy positions Meta to diversify revenue beyond advertising and subscriptions, leveraging its AI infrastructure and advertiser base to capture enterprise spending.
