Phison PS5037-E37T DRAMless SSD Demonstrates Gen5 Speeds at 4.5W Low Power Draw Computex 2026 Update

This week at Computex Taipei, Silicon Motion showcased several new SSD controllers, led by the SM2524XT Gen5 DRAMless controller built on TSMC’s 6nm process. It uses the host memory buffer (HMB) from system RAM for mapping tables, achieving 14GB/s read and 12GB/s write speeds with up to 2200K IOPS. Notably, active power consumption is only 2.5W, enabling less heat and longer battery life in notebooks. It is also the first 4-channel controller to support 3D TLC/QLC NAND at 4800MT/s, compatible with KIOXIA BiCS9 and YMTC X4, and includes SMI 8th-generation NANDXtend ECC. Silicon Motion also introduced the SM2755 UFS 4.1 controller for smartphones, a 2-channel design delivering up to 4.4GB/s throughput and 1000K IOPS. The smaller SM2738 eMMC controller targets smart glasses and smart watches, offering 340MB/s read and 300MB/s write for compact, high-speed storage. For external SSDs, the SM2324 USB4 controller achieved USB4 speeds of 4GB/s read and 3.7GB/s write. It supports drives up to 32TB, with 8 channels, 32CEs (1,600MT/s), 3D TLC/QLC NAND, end-to-end data protection, AES256-bit encryption, and both ONFI 5.0 and Toggle 3.0 interfaces. Additionally, the company highlighted enterprise and data center controllers: the SM8466 Gen6 controller (16-channel, 4,800MT/s, 28GB/s throughput, doubling Gen5). The SM8388 Gen5 Nearline SSD delivers up to 14GB/s and 3500K IOPS, demonstrated live at the show. Computex this year also featured more enterprise and data center SSDs, signaling a broader industry trend.
